Abigail Weston photographed against a green hedge background by photographer Anselm Ebulue

Iā€™m Abigail Weston, a BA (Hons) Textile Design student at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. My focus is on knitted textiles and creating pieces to be appreciated as works of art within the home, commercial environment or public space.

My work is tied together by a strong use of colour and I love using an unexpected combination of colours within my work. It is in objects, surfaces and spaces not typically considered beautiful that I most enjoy finding inspiration to inform the colours, textures and shapes within my designs.

When responding to this research I frequently take a mixed-media approach, incorporating unexpected materials into my textile pieces and, in doing so, challenging commonly held perceptions about what constitutes a textile.

I have an instinctive sense of materiality and enjoy finding ways to both work with and showcase the unique properties of the different materials incorporated into my textiles. I am particularly drawn to the way a piece of textiles hangs, moves or feels when handled.
